🥩 Hamburger Steak With Gravy 😋
Don’t LOSE This Recipe – Old-Fashioned Comfort Food at Its Best
Some recipes don’t need fancy ingredients or complicated steps to be unforgettable.
They become special because of how they make us feel.
Hamburger Steak with Gravy is one of those dishes.
It’s the kind of meal that brings you back to family dinners, warm kitchens, and plates scraped clean without a single word spoken. Just satisfied smiles. It’s rich, savory, comforting, and deeply familiar — the kind of food that feels like home no matter where you are.
Every time I make this, it reminds me why simple recipes are often the best ones. Juicy beef patties, tender and full of flavor, simmered gently in a rich onion gravy that you’ll want to spoon over everything. Mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, bread — nothing is safe around this gravy.
If you’re someone who loves real, honest food that fills the house with the smell of comfort, this recipe is for you.

🥩 Hamburger Steak With Onion Gravy – Full Recipe
Ingredients
-
1 (10½-ounce) can Campbell’s French onion soup
-
1½ lbs ground beef
-
½ cup dry breadcrumbs
-
1 egg
-
¼ teaspoon salt
-
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)
-
1 tablespoon oil (for frying)
Optional but recommended:
-
Extra black pepper for the gravy
-
Fresh parsley for garnish
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Make the Hamburger Steaks
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands just until combined — don’t overmix or the patties will be tough.
Form the mixture into oval or round patties, about ½-inch thick.
Step 2: Brown the Patties
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the hamburger steaks and brown them on both sides until nicely seared. They don’t need to be fully cooked at this stage.
Remove the patties and set aside.
Step 3: Make the Gravy
Reduce heat to medium. Pour the French onion soup into the same skillet, scraping up all the browned bits from the bottom — that’s where the flavor lives.
Bring the soup to a gentle simmer.
Step 4: Simmer Everything Together
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet. Spoon some gravy over the tops, cover, and let simmer for 20–25 minutes until the patties are fully cooked and tender.
The gravy will thicken slightly and become rich and glossy.
Step 5: Serve
Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning with black pepper if needed. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve hot.
