While at the pool, a rude woman taunted me, stating I “should be ASHAMED to wear a swimsuit at my age” — what happened next, thanks to my 6-year-old granddaughter, left her unsettled.
When my daughter and her husband passed away in a car crash, I became the legal guardian of my five-year-old granddaughter, Amelia.
At 65, my responsibilities shifted; I was now both grandmother and mother.
That year was one of hardship. Working two shifts at the grocery store became necessary since my pension couldn’t support us. Over time, after clearing my mortgage, things improved.
As Amelia’s sixth birthday neared, my goal was to host a proper celebration by inviting her friends and getting a lovely cake.
But Amelia said simply:
“Grandma, I just want us to spend one day relaxing together.”
So, I arranged for two lounge chairs at a pool resort outside town.
Amelia also wished we could wear matching swimsuits, forming “one team.”
We went straight into the pool, and as we exited, a woman yelled:
“OH MY GOD, AREN’T YOU ASHAMED?”
Turning, I saw a woman who seemed about thirty, dressed in a revealing swimsuit and a sun hat, close behind.
I responded:
“Excuse me, ma’am, were you talking to me? Did I do something wrong?”
She laughed harshly:
“Have you seen what you look like in a swimsuit? At YOUR AGE, you shouldn’t be wearing one. You should be ashamed of yourself. There are children here.”
Shaking, I replied:
“But… it’s a full-coverage swimsuit…”
She ridiculed further, saying I should use more covering clothes, even by the pool.
Her friends, sitting nearby, laughed quietly.
I felt mortified.
Amelia said she needed to go to the restroom and was away for about ten minutes.
On returning, she approached the rude woman and did something I NEVER imagined.
