Swedish Meatballs

Swedish Meatballs
Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter (for frying)
For the Gravy:
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:
Prepare the Meatballs:
In a large bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for a few minutes until the breadcrumbs absorb the milk.
Add the ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper to the breadcrumb mixture.
Mix everything together until well combined.
Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
Cook the Meatballs:
In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
Add the meatballs in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry the meatballs until they are browned on all sides and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them aside.
Make the Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt the 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
Whisk in the flour and cook for 2-3 minutes, until the flour is lightly browned.
Gradually add the beef broth while continuously whisking to prevent lumps from forming.
Stir in the heavy cream, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard.
Simmer the gravy for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine Meatballs and Gravy:
Return the cooked meatballs to the skillet, tossing them in the gravy until they are fully coated.
Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve:
Serve the Swedish meatballs over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
