Stuffed Bacon and Cheese Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
3/4 cup whole milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives (optional)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Directions:
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add Milk:
Pour in the milk and gently stir until the dough begins to come together. Be careful not to overmix.
Add Cheese and Bacon:
Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, and chopped chives (if using).
If desired, add garlic powder for extra flavor.
Form the Biscuits:
Lightly flour a work surface and turn the dough out onto it.
Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick.
Fold the dough over itself in thirds, then pat it down again. Repeat this process 2-3 times to create layers.
Roll the dough to a thickness of about 1 inch.
Use a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Add Egg Wash:
Brush the tops of the biscuits with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
Bake:
Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
Serve:
Allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving warm.
Storage:
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
