Ingredients

For the Spaghetti Base

  • 8 oz spaghetti (about half a 16 oz box)

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Savory Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1½ cups marinara or spaghetti sauce

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

For the Cheesy Topping

  • 1 cup cottage cheese or ricotta cheese

  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Optional: chopped fresh parsley or basil for garnish

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven & Cook the Pasta

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.

Tip: Slightly undercooked pasta works best since it will continue cooking in the oven.

2. Make the Spaghetti Crust

In a large bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti, beaten eggs, and grated Parmesan cheese. Toss until the pasta is fully coated.

Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish or round baking dish. Transfer the spaghetti mixture into the dish and press firmly along the bottom and up the sides to form a crust, similar to a pie shell.

Why this works:
The eggs bind the pasta together while the Parmesan adds flavor and helps the crust crisp up beautifully.

3. Prepare the Meat Sauce

Heat a skillet over medium heat with a drizzle of oil.
Sauté the chopped onion for 2–3 minutes until soft, then add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Add ground beef or sausage, season with salt and pepper, and cook until fully browned. Drain excess grease if needed. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 5–10 minutes to let the flavors meld.

4. Assemble the Spaghetti Pie

Spread the cottage cheese or ricotta evenly over the spaghetti crust. This layer adds creaminess and balances the savory meat sauce.

Spoon the meat sauce on top, spreading it evenly. Finish by sprinkling shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the entire pie.
