Southern Fried Peaches

Ingredients:
4 ripe peaches, peeled and sliced
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)

Directions:
In a shallow dish, combine flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
In another bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk.
Dip peach slices into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and back into the flour mixture, coating them well.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Carefully place coated peach slices into the hot oil, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
Fry the peach slices for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
