🍯 Old-Fashioned Caramel Icing

½ cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar (packed)

¼ cup whole milk or heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2–3 cups powdered sugar (adjust for thickness)

1️⃣ Prep

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2️⃣ Mix Dry Ingredients

Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together. Set aside.
3️⃣ Cream Butter & Sugar

Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (4–5 minutes).

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
4️⃣ Combine

Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.

Stir in vanilla extract.
5️⃣ Bake

Divide batter evenly between pans.

Bake 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

6️⃣ Make the Caramel Icing

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

Stir in brown sugar and milk.
