Smothered Green Beans

Smothered Green Beans

Ingredients:
1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
4 slices of bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional for extra flavor)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional for a touch of sweetness)

Directions:
Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the rendered bacon fat in the pan.
Sauté Onion and Garlic: In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the Green Beans: Add the fresh green beans to the skillet and stir to combine with the onions and garlic.
Simmer with Broth: Pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and cook the green beans for about 10-15 minutes, or until tender.
Finish with Bacon and Seasoning: Stir in the cooked bacon, butter, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. If you like a slightly sweet touch, add brown sugar at this point. Stir well to combine, then cook for another 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot, garnished with extra bacon if desired.
