5. 2 tbsp ketchup
6. 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
7. 1 tbsp mustard
8. 1 tbsp brown sugar
9. 1 tsp garlic powder
10. 1/2 tsp onion powder
11. Salt and pepper to taste
For the Grilled Cheese:
1. 4 slices of your favorite bread (such as sourdough, white, or whole wheat)
2. 4 slices of cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
3. Butter for grilling (about 2-3 tbsp)
Directions:
1. Make the Sloppy Joe Filling:
1.1. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
1.2. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
1.3. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
1.4. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes to thicken and allow flavors to meld. Adjust seasoning if needed.
2. Assemble the Grilled Cheese:
2.1. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
2.2. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in a skillet over medium heat.
2.3. Add a slice of cheese on top of the bread.
2.4. Spoon a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe filling over the cheese.
2.5. Top with another slice of cheese and place the second slice of bread, buttered side up, on top.
3. Grill the Sandwich:
3.1. Grill the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing down lightly with a spatula, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
3.2. Carefully flip the sandwich over and grill the other side until golden brown and crispy.
4. Serve:
4.1. Slice the sandwich in half and serve hot.
4.2. Enjoy with a side of fries or chips for a hearty meal!
