📋 Ingredients
🥩 For the Salisbury Steak:
1½ pounds ground beef
⅓ cup breadcrumbs
1 egg, beaten
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil, for cooking
🍄 For the Mushroom & Onion Gravy:
2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 cup mushrooms, sliced (white or cremini)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
🥔 For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed (Yukon gold or russet)
4 cloves garlic, peeled
4 tablespoons butter
½–¾ cup milk or heavy cream
Salt and pepper, to taste
🔧 Instructions
Step 1: Make the Salisbury Steaks
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined — don’t overwork.
Shape into 4–6 oval patties.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned and mostly cooked through.
Transfer to a plate and set aside.
Step 2: Make the Gravy
In the same skillet, melt butter and add onions. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
Add mushrooms and cook another 5–6 minutes, until browned and tender.
Sprinkle in flour, stir well, and cook for 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in beef broth, then add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a simmer and return steaks to the skillet. Spoon gravy over them.
Simmer uncovered for 10–12 minutes, or until steaks are cooked through and gravy is thickened.
Step 3: Make the Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Boil potatoes and garlic cloves in salted water until tender, about 15–20 minutes.
Drain and return to pot.
Add butter, then mash until smooth.
Slowly stir in milk or cream until desired consistency is reached.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4: Serve
Plate a generous scoop of garlic mashed potatoes, top with Salisbury steak, and smother everything in mushroom-onion gravy.
🍴 Optional Garnishes:
Fresh chopped parsley
A drizzle of cream in the mashed potatoes
Crispy fried onions for a crunch on top
📦 Storage:
Keeps well in the fridge for 3–4 days.
Reheats beautifully in the microwave or on the stove.
Mashed potatoes may need a splash of milk to revive the creaminess.
💡 Pro Tip:
For extra depth of flavor, add a splash of red wine to the gravy before simmering — it pairs wonderfully with the beef and mushrooms.
