Rude women swiped my 80-year-old mom’s reserved pool lounger, insisting she DIDN’T NEED it because she was in a wheelchair — and then the resort manager made them regret that choice.
My mom had recently had hip replacement surgery. She’d spent months in recovery.
I could see how much she struggled, but she never voiced a complaint.
Her doctor had finally allowed her to start swimming in the pool occasionally and to slowly begin walking again, even though she still used a wheelchair now and then.
I decided to take her away for a weekend so she could truly relax.
I reserved a hotel with an accessible pool area, called beforehand, and booked two lounge chairs right next to the pool lift.
The instant we arrived, her face absolutely lit up.
We headed to the pool and put our towels on our reserved loungers.
My mom stayed in her wheelchair while she placed her things on the lounger and asked me to bring her a lemonade.
I was away for about ten minutes.
When I came back, two women were stretched out across our loungers, wearing hats and drinking cocktails.
My mom was sitting there looking totally defeated. Our towels and all of her belongings had been tossed on the GROUND.
I calmly said:
“Excuse me. I’m sorry, but I reserved these lounge chairs.”
The women burst into laughter. One of them replied:
“She DOESN’T need a lounge chair. She’s already sitting IN A WHEELCHAIR. So we just took the FREE LOUNGERS!”
I was boiling inside and wanted to say exactly what I thought. But my mom quietly whispered that it was alright and that we could just choose other lounge chairs.
I didn’t want to turn her vacation into an argument.
So I picked our things up off the floor, and we found another place to sit.
Moments later, the hotel manager walked past.
HE SMILED AT ME, then went over to the women who had taken our loungers.
He said:
“Ladies, we’d like to give you a COMPLIMENTARY GIFT from the resort to welcome you as our first-time guests.”
He presented them with a BOX.
The women opened it and gasped.
The SHOCK on their faces said it all.
And even now, I still can’t believe WHAT was inside that box. ⬇️
