Potato and Meat Pie
Ingredients:
2 lbs (900g) potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup (120ml) beef broth
1/2 cup (120ml) tomato sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 cup (60ml) milk
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup (50g) shredded cheese (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a large pot, boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash them with the milk and butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
3. While the potatoes are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
5. Stir in the tomato sauce, beef broth, paprika, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
6. In a baking dish, spread the cooked meat mixture evenly at the bottom. Top with the mashed potatoes, spreading them smoothly over the meat layer. If desired, sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
8. Let the pie cool slightly before serving.
