A tiny glowing firefly made from a paper roll lights up the night—fun to make, magical to watch!
DIY Paper Roll Fireflies
Supplies:
1 toilet paper roll
Black construction paper
Yellow, white, pink, or blue printer paper
3 black pipe cleaners (6-inch)
2 medium googly eyes
Crafter’s tape or double-sided tape
Regular tape
Scissors
Flameless tealight
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut the Base
Cut a small hole near the bottom of the toilet paper roll—this is where the glow will shine through.
Step 2: Cover the Body
Cut a black construction paper rectangle to wrap around the roll. Tape it in place.
Use the hole as a guide and cut a belly shape so the yellow light can show.
Roll a yellow paper rectangle and insert it inside the tube so it lines up with the cut-out area. Tape it in place.
Step 3: Create the Face
Cut a circle from black construction paper for the firefly’s head.
Glue on googly eyes and draw a smile.
Attach the face to the top front of the paper roll.
Step 4: Add Limbs
Wrap one pipe cleaner around the middle of the roll and bend the ends down to look like arms or feet. Tape it in place.
Bend a second pipe cleaner into a U-shape, then curve it to fit inside the bottom of the roll. Tape it in place and bend the “feet” upward.
Step 5: Antennae
Fold the third pipe cleaner in half. Roll each end into a spiral.
Tape it to the back of the head circle for antennae.
Step 6: Wings
Cut two symmetrical wing shapes from white (or colored) paper.
Tape them together in the middle and then tape them to the back of the roll.
Slightly curve them forward to give them a fluttery look.
Step 7: Light It Up
Turn on a flameless tealight and place it inside the roll so it shines through the belly.
Turn off the lights and enjoy your glowing little firefly!
