Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler

Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler
Ingredients:
4 cups fresh or canned peaches, sliced
1 cup granulated sugar (adjust for sweetness of peaches)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar (for batter)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Directions:
Prepare the Peaches:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
If using fresh peaches, peel and slice them. Combine the peaches with 1 cup of sugar in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the peaches release their juices. If using canned peaches, drain them and skip the cooking process.
Melt the Butter:
Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish, ensuring the bottom is evenly coated.
Make the Batter:
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract, stirring until the batter is smooth.
Assemble the Cobbler:
Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir. The batter will spread and rise as it bakes.
Spoon the peaches and their juice evenly over the batter. Do not mix them into the batter; they will sink and the batter will rise around them as it bakes.
Bake the Cobbler:
If desired, sprinkle ground cinnamon and nutmeg over the top of the cobbler for added flavor.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the batter has set.
Serve:
Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
