Old School Egg Custard Pie
Ingredients:
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
4 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Optional: 1 tablespoon butter, melted
Directions:
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish, crimping the edges if desired.
Prepare the Custard:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth and well-blended.
Assemble the Pie:
Pour the custard mixture into the prepared pie crust.
Sprinkle the top evenly with ground nutmeg.
Bake:
Carefully place the pie in the preheated oven. Bake for 15 minutes at 400°F (200°C).
After 15 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve:
Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. The custard will continue to firm up as it cools.
Serve the pie slightly warm or chilled.
