Nestlé Toll House Death by Chocolate Cake
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
For the Frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
For the Garnish:
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Whipped cream or additional chocolate shavings (optional)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line with parchment paper.
For the Cake:
In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
Gradually add boiling water and mix until well combined. The batter will be thin.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
For the Frosting:
Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed until combined.
Add milk and vanilla extract, beating until smooth and fluffy.
Mix in melted chocolate until fully incorporated.
Assemble the Cake:
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top.
Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
Garnish with additional chocolate chips and whipped cream or chocolate shavings if desired.
