Mozzarella Stuffed Soft Pretzels Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Pretzels:
1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
12 mozzarella cheese sticks (string cheese)
For the Baking Soda Bath:
10 cups water
2/3 cup baking soda
For the Topping:
1 large egg, beaten
Coarse sea salt
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
Add the flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir until the dough comes together, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and lightly grease them.
Prepare the Baking Soda Bath:
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a boil.
Shape the Pretzels:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 12-15 inches long.
Wrap each dough rope around a mozzarella cheese stick, making sure to pinch the seams well to seal the cheese inside.
Boil the Pretzels:
Using a slotted spatula, carefully dip each pretzel into the boiling baking soda bath for about 30 seconds. Remove and place on the prepared baking sheets.
Bake the Pretzels:
Brush the boiled pretzels with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pretzels are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Serve:
Allow the pretzels to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with your favorite dipping sauce!Mozzarella Stuffed Soft Pretzels Recipe
