Mississippi Sloppy Joes
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
1/2 cup green bell pepper (chopped)
1/4 cup pepperoncini peppers (sliced)
1/4 cup pepperoncini juice (from the jar)
1 (1 oz) packet ranch seasoning mix
1/2 cup beef broth
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp unsalted butter
6 hamburger buns
Sliced provolone or cheddar cheese (optional)
Directions:
Cook the Beef:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add Vegetables:
Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
Season and Simmer:
Stir in the pepperoncini peppers, pepperoncini juice, ranch seasoning, beef broth, barbecue sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and bring to a simmer.
Add Butter and Reduce:
Add the butter to the mixture and stir until it melts. Allow the mixture to simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
Toast the Buns:
While the mixture is simmering, toast the hamburger buns in a separate pan or toaster oven until lightly golden.
Assemble:
Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the toasted buns. If desired, top with a slice of provolone or cheddar cheese.
Serve:
Serve hot with chips, fries, or a side salad.
