Mama’s Cornbread Dressing

Mama’s Cornbread Dressing
A Southern holiday classic—moist, savory cornbread dressing with tender vegetables and rich poultry seasoning. Comfort food at its finest!

Ingredients:
6 cups crumbled cornbread (homemade or store-bought)

2 cups chopped onions

2 cups chopped celery

½ cup butter

2–3 cups chicken broth (adjust to taste)

2 large eggs, lightly beaten

1 tsp poultry seasoning

1 tsp sage (optional but traditional)

1 tsp salt (or to taste)

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp baking powder (optional, for a lighter texture)

Directions:
Prepare the Cornbread:
If not using leftover cornbread, bake a fresh pan and let it cool completely. Crumble into a large mixing bowl.

Cook the Veggies:
Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Sauté chopped onions and celery until soft and fragrant (about 7–10 minutes).

Mix It All Together:
Add the sautéed veggies (with butter) to the crumbled cornbread.
Stir in eggs, poultry seasoning, sage, salt, pepper, and baking powder.
Gradually mix in chicken broth until very moist but not soupy.

Bake the Dressing:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Spread mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.
