Italian Stromboli
Ingredients:
1 package (13.8 oz) refrigerated pizza dough
1/4 cup marinara sauce
1/2 lb sliced Italian deli meats (such as salami, pepperoni, ham)
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 tbsp olive oil (optional, for brushing)
Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Marinara sauce, for dipping
Directions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Roll Out the Dough:
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle, about 10×13 inches.
Assemble the Stromboli:
Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce over the dough, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges.
Layer the Italian deli meats evenly over the sauce, followed by the shredded mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder on top.
Roll the Stromboli:
Starting from one of the longer sides, carefully roll the dough into a tight log, tucking in the ends as you go. Place the Stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Brush with Egg Wash:
Brush the top and sides of the Stromboli with the beaten egg to give it a golden, shiny finish. If desired, lightly brush with olive oil for extra crispiness.
Bake the Stromboli:
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the Stromboli is golden brown and cooked through.
Cool and Slice:
Let the Stromboli cool for a few minutes before slicing it into 1-inch thick slices.
Serve:
Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired. Serve with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
