Italian Sausage Pasta

Ingredients:
1 lb (450g) Italian sausage, casings removed
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
8 oz pasta (penne or rotini works well)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Salt and black pepper to taste

Directions:
Cook the Sausage:
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up into crumbles. Remove excess grease if needed.
Sauté Vegetables:
Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute.
Make the Sauce:
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and chicken broth. Mix well and bring to a simmer.
Add Cream and Seasonings:
Pour in the heavy cream and add dried basil, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes to blend the flavors.
Cook the Pasta:
While the sauce simmers, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Combine and Serve:
Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and stir to combine. Let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Serve Hot:
Serve the Italian sausage pasta hot, and enjoy!
