Irresistible Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
Ingredients:
12 mozzarella string cheese sticks, halved
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 ½ cups breadcrumbs (Panko or Italian-style)
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
Cooking spray or vegetable oil (for frying)
Marinara sauce (for dipping)
Directions:
Prepare the Cheese Sticks:
Cut each mozzarella stick in half to make 24 shorter sticks.
Place the cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. This will help prevent the cheese from melting too quickly when frying.
Set Up the Breading Stations:
In one shallow dish, place the flour.
In a second shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk.
In a third shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
Bread the Cheese Sticks:
Take the frozen cheese sticks and coat each one in flour, shaking off any excess.
Dip the floured cheese stick into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.
Finally, roll the cheese stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the coating sticks well.
For an extra crispy layer, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating steps once more.
Place the breaded cheese sticks back on the baking sheet and freeze for another 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Fry or Bake the Cheese Sticks:
Frying:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the cheese sticks in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Baking:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Arrange the cheese sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Lightly spray the tops with cooking spray or drizzle with a small amount of vegetable oil.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese sticks are golden and the cheese begins to melt.
Serve and Enjoy:
Serve the mozzarella cheese sticks immediately with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
