I lost my wife the very day our triplets were born — ten years later, after their birthday celebration, we discovered a box waiting on our porch bearing a tag that read, “To my beautiful daughters. Love, Mom.”

Ten years ago, I lost the love of my life on what should have been the happiest day we had ever lived through.

My wife passed away while delivering our three beautiful daughters.

I will never forget the second the doctor told me she was gone.

One moment, I was expecting to meet my new family of five. The next, I was struggling to understand how I had suddenly become a widower and the father of three newborn girls.

Those first few months passed in a blur.

I was grieving more deeply than I thought was possible, but whenever I looked into my daughters’ faces, I reminded myself they still needed me there.

Thankfully, I wasn’t left completely on my own. My mother and my sister stepped in as often as they could. They helped with feedings, watched the girls when I needed to work, and kept me from breaking down. As life slowly settled into a routine, I never stopped missing my wife. Even years later, I would see our daughters laughing and wonder how different our lives might have been if she were beside us.

Yesterday, the girls turned ten.

We marked the day with family, cake, balloons, and a backyard party they had been dreaming about for months.

By late evening, the last of the guests had gone, the girls were worn out, and I was about to lock the door for the night when I heard an unusual sound outside.

I opened the front door and saw a neatly wrapped box sitting on the porch.

There was no return address on it.

Only a small handwritten tag was tied neatly to the ribbon.

I picked the box up.

The moment I read the inscription, every trace of color drained from my face.

“To my beautiful daughters. Love, Mom.” ⬇️
