Hot Apple Dumplings
Ingredients:
2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll dough
1 cup unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 can (12 oz) lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7-Up)
Directions:
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
Prepare Apples:
Cut each apple into 8 equal slices. You should have 16 apple slices in total.
Wrap Apples in Dough:
Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 16 triangles. Place an apple slice at the wide end of each dough triangle and roll it up, covering the apple completely. Pinch the edges to seal.
Arrange in Baking Dish:
Place the wrapped apple slices in the prepared baking dish, with the seam side down.
Make the Butter Sauce:
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
Pour Over Dumplings:
Pour the butter sauce evenly over the wrapped apple slices in the baking dish.
Add Soda:
Carefully pour the lemon-lime soda around the edges of the baking dish, avoiding the tops of the dumplings. This will help create a delicious sauce as the dumplings bake.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.
Serve:
Serve the hot apple dumplings with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of the sauce from the baking dish.
