Ingredients:
For the Doughnuts:
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1/2 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup whole milk, warm
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
Make the Dough:
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large bowl, combine the sugar, warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
Add the frothy yeast mixture to the wet ingredients.
Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Doughnuts:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to 1/2-inch thickness on a floured surface.
Use a doughnut cutter or a round cutter and a smaller cutter for the center hole to cut out doughnuts.
Place the doughnuts and holes on a floured baking sheet, cover with a kitchen towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Fry the Doughnuts:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the doughnuts in batches, about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
Remove the doughnuts with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Make the Glaze:
In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Glaze the Doughnuts:
Dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze, turning to coat both sides.
Place the glazed doughnuts on a wire rack to set.
