Homemade Churros

Homemade Churros

Ingredients:
– 1 cup water
– 2 1/2 tbsp sugar
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 2 tbsp vegetable oil
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– Oil for frying
– 1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
– 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions:
1. **Prepare Dough:** In a small saucepan, combine the water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Once the mixture is boiling, remove it from the heat and add the flour all at once, stirring vigorously until the mixture forms a ball of dough.
2. **Cool Dough:** Allow the dough to cool slightly so it’s easier to handle.
3. **Heat Oil:** Heat oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 375°F (190°C). The oil should be deep enough to submerge the churros.
4. **Pipe Churros:** Fill a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle with the dough. Pipe the dough into the hot oil in long strips, cutting off the end with a knife or scissors.
5. **Fry Churros:** Fry the churros until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Fry them in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
6. **Drain Churros:** Remove the churros from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
7. **Coat Churros:** In a shallow dish, mix the sugar and cinnamon. Roll the warm churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
8. **Serve:** Serve the churros warm, with chocolate sauce or dulce de leche for dipping, if desired.
