Homemade Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2-4 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
Pinch of salt
Directions:
Cream the Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed using a hand mixer or stand mixer until it’s smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed after each addition until fully incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Add Vanilla and Salt: Mix in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt until well combined.
Adjust Consistency: Add heavy cream or milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, and continue to beat on medium speed until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. For a thicker consistency, add less cream; for a thinner, more spreadable frosting, add more cream.
Beat Until Fluffy: Once all ingredients are incorporated, increase the mixer speed to high and beat for an additional 2-3 minutes until the frosting is light, fluffy, and smooth.
Use Immediately or Store: Use the buttercream frosting immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies. If not using right away, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. When ready to use, let it come to room temperature and re-whip for a few minutes to restore its creamy texture.
