🍬 Homemade Bubble Gum Recipe 🍬
Ingredients
2 cups granulated sugar
½ cup light corn syrup
½ cup water (plus an additional ¼ cup for blooming the gelatin)
1 tbsp unflavored gelatin (like Knox)
1 tsp salt
Food coloring (optional, for vibrant color)
Flavor extract (such as bubble gum, peppermint, or fruit – optional but recommended)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Bloom the Gelatin
In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over ¼ cup of cold water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to soften and swell—this helps it dissolve smoothly into the hot sugar mixture.
2. Prepare the Sugar Syrup
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and ½ cup water. Stir well to mix.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Once dissolved, stop stirring and let the mixture come to a boil.
3. Cook to the Right Temperature
Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pot and continue cooking the syrup without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) . This usually takes about 10–12 minutes on medium-high heat.
4. Add Gelatin and Seasonings
Once the syrup hits 300°F, remove the saucepan from the heat immediately.
Carefully whisk in the bloomed gelatin, salt, and any food coloring or flavoring extracts. The mixture will foam up slightly—be cautious and stir slowly.
5. Let It Cool Slightly
Pour the hot gum mixture onto a silicone mat or parchment-lined baking sheet. Let it cool undisturbed for about 30 minutes, or until it’s thickened to a honey-like consistency.
6. Knead and Shape
Sprinkle a clean surface lightly with powdered sugar and transfer the cooled gum mixture onto it.
Knead the gum gently until smooth and no longer sticky. If it becomes too stiff, keep working it—it will soften with kneading.
Roll the gum into small balls, sticks, or flatten and cut into strips using a pizza cutter or knife.
7. Wrap and Store
Wrap each piece in wax paper or parchment paper, or store them in an airtight container at room temperature.
