Greek Steak Pitas with Caramelized Onions and Mushrooms
Ingredients:
For the Steak:
1 lb steak (sirloin or flank), thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings:
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon sugar
4 pita breads
For the Tzatziki Sauce:
1 cup Greek yogurt
1 cucumber, grated and squeezed dry
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Tzatziki Sauce:
Mix yogurt, cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, and dill. Chill in the fridge.
2. Caramelize Onions and Mushrooms:
Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions, mushrooms, and sugar. Cook until golden and soft, about 15 minutes. Set aside.
3. Cook the Steak:
Heat olive oil in the same skillet. Add steak slices, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned.
4. Assemble the Pitas:
Warm pitas and layer with steak, caramelized onions, mushrooms, and a drizzle of tzatziki sauce.
5. Serve:
Garnish with fresh parsley or feta cheese if desired. Serve warm.
