Funnel Cake Fries
Ingredients:
1½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 large egg
½ cup milk
½ cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Powdered sugar for dusting
Directions:
Prepare the Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk, water, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until smooth.
Heat the Oil:
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Make sure there’s enough oil for the funnel cake fries to float while frying (about 2 inches deep).
Pipe the Fries:
Transfer the batter to a piping bag or a plastic zip-top bag with a corner cut off. Pipe the batter into the hot oil in long, straight strips (about 4-5 inches long).
Fry the Fries:
Fry the funnel cake fries in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Dust with Powdered Sugar:
While still warm, generously dust the funnel cake fries with powdered sugar.
Serve and Enjoy:
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or fruit sauces.
