French Onion Soup Rice

French Onion Soup Rice
Ingredients:
1 cup long-grain white rice
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 cups beef broth (preferably low sodium)
1 cup French onion soup (canned or homemade)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Directions:
Sauté the Onions:
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
Season the onions with a pinch of salt and pepper while cooking to enhance their flavor.
Cook the Rice:
Once the onions are caramelized, add the rice to the skillet.
Stir the rice to coat it in the butter and onions, cooking for 2-3 minutes until the rice becomes slightly toasted.
Add the Broth and Soup:
Pour in the beef broth and French onion soup, then add the garlic powder, onion powder, and dried thyme.
Stir to combine everything, and bring the mixture to a boil.
Simmer the Rice:
Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet with a lid, and let the rice simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
Finish with Cheese:
Once the rice is cooked, remove the skillet from the heat.
Stir in the shredded Gruyère cheese until it melts and the rice becomes creamy and cheesy.
Garnish and Serve:
Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color and flavor.
Serve the French Onion Soup Rice as a savory side dish or enjoy it as a comforting main course!
