French Onion Pork Chops

French Onion Pork Chops

Description

These French Onion Pork Chops are juicy, savory, and topped with caramelized onions and melted cheese for that classic French onion flavor. Easy enough for weeknight dinners but fancy enough to impress guests.

Ingredients

  • 4 bone-in pork chops

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

  • 2 Tbsp butter

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp thyme (fresh or dried)

  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth

  • ½ cup shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese

Optional Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

  1. Prepare the Pork Chops
Season pork chops with salt and black pepper.

  2. Sear the Pork Chops
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear pork chops 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  3. Caramelize the Onions
In the same skillet, add butter. Sauté onions with a pinch of salt over medium heat for 8–10 minutes until soft and golden. Add garlic and thyme; cook 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. Deglaze & Simmer
Pour in broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits. Return pork chops to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10–12 minutes, or until pork chops are cooked through (145°F internal temp).

  5. Add Cheese
Sprinkle cheese over pork chops and onions. Cover and let sit 2–3 minutes to melt.

  6. Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm with your favorite side, like mashed potatoes or roasted veggies.
