French Onion Broccoli Cheese Casserole Recipe

French Onion Broccoli Cheese Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:
4 cups fresh or frozen broccoli florets (about 1-1.5 pounds)
1 can (10.5 oz) condensed French onion soup
1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
1 cup French-fried onions, divided
1/2 cup sour cream or mayonnaise (optional, for added creaminess)
Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Broccoli:
If using fresh broccoli, steam it lightly until it’s just tender (about 3-4 minutes) and drain well. For frozen broccoli, thaw and drain any excess water.
Mix the Casserole Base:
In a large bowl, combine the French onion soup, cream of mushroom (or cream of chicken) soup, cheddar cheese, and sour cream or mayonnaise (if using). Mix until smooth.
Season with salt and pepper to taste, keeping in mind that the soups and cheese are already salty.
Assemble the Casserole:
Add the broccoli florets to the mixture and stir to coat evenly.
Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Add Topping:
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese over the casserole, followed by half of the French-fried onions.
Bake:
Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese is melted.
Remove from the oven, sprinkle with the remaining French-fried onions, and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the onions are golden and crispy.
Serve:
Serve warm as a side dish with your favorite main course.
