Earthquake Cake

Earthquake Cake

Ingredients:
1 box German chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
8 oz cream cheese, softened
½ cup butter, melted
4 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:
Prepare Cake Pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan. Sprinkle coconut and chopped pecans evenly across the bottom of the pan.
Make Cake Batter: Prepare the German chocolate cake batter according to the package instructions. Pour the batter over the coconut and pecans in the pan.
Cream Cheese Mixture: In a separate bowl, beat together softened cream cheese, melted butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Spoon dollops of this mixture over the cake batter.
Add Chocolate Chips: Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the cake is set. The cake will have a “cracked” look and may appear uneven—this is normal for Earthquake Cake!
Cool and Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving warm. The cake will have pockets of gooey, cream cheese goodness throughout.
