👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Burger Filling

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, crumbled bacon, salt, and pepper.

  2. Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape into small patties, slightly smaller than the cheese slices.

  3. Place a slice of cheese on each patty (or wrap a cheese stick in beef), pressing lightly to secure.

  4. Insert a wooden skewer through each patty.

2. Make the Cornmeal Batter

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  2. In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, and melted butter.

  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth and slightly thick.

3. Heat the Oil

  • Fill a deep fryer or large pot with vegetable oil (about 2–3 inches deep).

  • Heat to 350°F (175°C).

4. Coat and Fry

  1. Pour batter into a tall glass or deep container (makes dipping easier).

  2. Dip each burger patty on a stick into the batter, coating completely.

  3. Carefully lower into hot oil and fry for 3–5 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
