Crustless Custard Pie
Ingredients:
4 large eggs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups whole milk (or half-and-half for a richer pie)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
2. Make the Custard Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined and slightly frothy.
Add the melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt, and mix until smooth.
Gradually whisk in the flour, followed by the milk, mixing until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
3. Pour into Pie Dish:
Pour the custard mixture into the prepared pie dish.
4. Add Nutmeg:
If desired, lightly sprinkle ground nutmeg over the top of the custard.
5. Bake:
Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set but still slightly jiggly. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
6. Cool:
Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack. The custard will firm up as it cools.
Once cool, refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.
7. Serve:
Slice and serve chilled or at room temperature. You can top it with whipped cream, fresh berries, or enjoy it as is!
