Crispy Hashbrown and Sausage Bites
Ingredients:
For the Bites:
1 lb breakfast sausage (bulk, not in casings)
2 cups frozen hashbrowns, thawed and drained
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Dipping Sauce (optional):
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp honey
Directions:
Prepare the Mixture:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until fully browned and crumbly. Drain any excess fat and transfer the sausage to a large bowl.
Add the thawed hashbrowns, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped onion, and green bell pepper to the bowl with the sausage.
Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir to combine.
Add the beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Form the Bites:
Preheat a large skillet with vegetable oil over medium heat.
Using your hands or a small cookie scoop, form the mixture into small bite-sized balls or patties, about 1-inch in diameter.
Carefully place the bites into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry in batches if necessary.
Cook the Bites:
Cook the bites for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked bites to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Prepare the Dipping Sauce:
In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, Dijon mustard, and honey. Stir until well blended.
Serve:
Serve the crispy hashbrown and sausage bites warm with the dipping sauce on the side.
