Crayon Star Sun Catchers

Crayon Star Sun Catchers
Ingredients:
– Old Crayons
– Wax Paper
– Parchment Paper
– Manual Sharpener or Knife
– Iron
– Star Stencil or Cookie Cutter
– Baker’s Twine

Directions:
1. Begin by peeling the paper off the old crayons. This will make it easier to work with the crayon itself.
2. Use a manual sharpener or a knife to carefully shave the crayons into tiny bits. Try to create a variety of colors for a vibrant effect.
3. Spread the crayon shavings evenly onto a piece of wax paper. Make sure to cover enough space for your star shapes.
4. Once you’ve arranged the crayon shavings to your liking, fold the wax paper in half and seal the edges by either pressing them together or using a piece of tape.
5. Next, place your wax paper envelope between two sheets of parchment paper. This will protect your iron and help with even melting.
6. Set your iron to low heat and gently iron over the parchment paper. Move the iron in a circular motion to ensure even melting of the crayon shavings. Do not leave the iron in one spot for too long, as it may burn the wax paper.
7. After a few moments, carefully lift the parchment paper to check if the crayon shavings have completely melted and spread out. Once melted, allow your creation to cool down completely.
8. Use a star stencil or cookie cutter to trace stars onto the melted crayon design on the wax paper. This will create the shapes you’ll use for your sun catchers.
9. Cut out the star shapes with scissors, being careful not to damage the edges.
10. To finish, punch a small hole in each star to allow for hanging.
11. Thread the stars with baker’s twine and hang them in your window to catch the light and create beautiful reflections.
