Copycat Pizza Hut Breadsticks
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F)
1 tablespoon sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for greasing)
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon salt (for topping)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Directions:
Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring to combine. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
Let it Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Shape the Breadsticks: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough, then turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 12×8 inches). Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut the dough into 8-10 strips.
Prepare for Baking: Place the breadsticks onto a greased baking sheet, leaving a little space between each stick. Brush the tops with the melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt. If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
Bake: Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
Serve: Remove the breadsticks from the oven and brush with any remaining melted butter. Serve hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
