Classic Southern Peach Cobbler

Classic Southern Peach Cobbler

Ingredients:
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup whole milk
4 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (or 1 large can of sliced peaches, drained)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions:
Preheat and Melt:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Put the dish in the oven until the butter is melted, about 5 minutes.
Prepare the Batter:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Slowly stir in the milk until the batter is smooth and well combined.
Add the Peaches:
In a separate bowl, toss the peaches with the lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar.
Assemble the Cobbler:
Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter. Again, do not stir—the batter will rise around the peaches as it bakes.
Bake:
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the cobbler is golden brown and the batter has risen around the peaches.
Serve:
Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
