Classic Mint Julep Recipe

🥃 Classic Mint Julep Recipe
Cool, sweet, and refreshingly strong—this Southern favorite is perfect for summer sipping or Derby Day celebrations!

🌿 Ingredients
Mint Simple Syrup:
2 cups water

2 cups white sugar

1 cup roughly chopped fresh mint leaves

For the Cocktails (serves 8):
8 cups crushed ice (or as needed)

32 oz Kentucky bourbon (4 oz per serving)

8 sprigs fresh mint (for garnish)

🍹 Instructions
1. Make the Mint Simple Syrup (Do this ahead of time)
In a small saucepan, bring water, sugar, and chopped mint to a boil over high heat.

Stir occasionally until sugar dissolves completely (about 1–2 minutes).

Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.

Once cooled, strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove mint leaves.

Refrigerate until ready to use.

2. Assemble the Mint Juleps
Fill 8 glasses to the brim with crushed ice.

In each glass, pour 4 oz bourbon and 1/4 cup mint syrup.

Stir gently to chill and mix. Add more syrup if you prefer it sweeter.

Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and serve immediately.

💡 Tips
Crushed ice is key for that classic julep texture—pulse ice cubes in a blender or use a mallet & bag.

Make the syrup a day ahead for even better flavor.

Want it lighter? Add a splash of sparkling water or club soda on top.
