Chicken Tacos with Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
1 lb (450 g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into strips
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tbsp lime juice
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp ground cumin
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Tacos:
8 small corn or flour tortillas
1 cup shredded lettuce
1 cup diced tomatoes
1/2 cup diced red onion
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Lime wedges (for serving)
Instructions:
Prepare Chicken:
In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Add the chicken strips and toss to coat evenly.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken strips and cook for 6-8 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred on the edges. Remove from heat and set aside.
Make the Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, minced garlic, chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste and set aside.
Warm Tortillas:
Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side, or until warm and pliable. Alternatively, wrap the tortillas in a damp paper towel and microwave for 20-30 seconds.
Assemble Tacos:
Place a few strips of cooked chicken on each warm tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced red onion, and chopped fresh cilantro.
Drizzle the prepared sauce over the tacos. Serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
