Berry Merry French Toast 🍓🍞

A festive, berry-loaded breakfast that feels special but comes together easily

Description

This Berry Merry French Toast is everything you want in a cozy breakfast or brunch—soft, custardy bread, lightly crisp edges, and a burst of juicy berries in every bite. Made with rich brioche or challah soaked in a creamy egg mixture, this French toast cooks up golden and indulgent, then gets topped with fresh berries for a cheerful, “merry” finish.

It’s perfect for weekends, holidays, or anytime you want to turn an ordinary morning into something memorable.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick-cut brioche or challah bread

  • 3 large eggs

  • ¾ cup whole milk

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar or honey

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 tablespoon butter (plus more for cooking)

  • 1½ cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

  • Powdered sugar or maple syrup, for serving

Directions

1️⃣ Make the Custard

In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth and well combined.

2️⃣ Soak the Bread

Dip each slice of bread into the custard, allowing it to soak for 15–20 seconds per side. The bread should absorb the mixture without becoming soggy.

3️⃣ Cook the French Toast

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt butter. Cook the soaked bread slices for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Add more butter as needed between batches.

4️⃣ Add the Berries

Warm the berries slightly in a small saucepan over low heat or serve them fresh on top for a bright, juicy contrast.

5️⃣ Serve

Top the French toast with berries, dust with powdered sugar, and drizzle with maple syrup. Serve immediately while warm.
