⭐ Ingredients
-
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
-
1 ¼ lbs. beef steak, cut into bite-size pieces (sirloin, chuck, or round all work well)
-
1 medium onion, diced
-
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
-
4 cups beef broth
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
1 teaspoon dried thyme
-
1 teaspoon dried parsley
-
½ teaspoon black pepper, more to taste
-
½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
-
12 oz egg noodles, cooked according to package directions
-
Optional: ½ cup sour cream or ¼ cup heavy cream for extra richness
-
Optional garnish: chopped parsley
🥘 Instructions
1. Brown the Beef
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
-
Add beef in a single layer (you may need to work in batches).
-
Sear 3–4 minutes per side until browned.
-
Transfer beef to a plate and set aside.
2. Sauté the Vegetables
-
In the same pan, add onions; cook 3–4 minutes until softened.
-
Add mushrooms and cook until they release their liquid and begin to brown, about 5 minutes.
-
Add garlic and cook 1 minute until fragrant.
3. Make the Gravy Base
-
Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir to coat evenly.
-
Cook 1 minute to remove raw flour taste.
-
Gradually stir in beef broth while scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
-
Add Worcestershire, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper.
4. Simmer Until Tender
-
Return browned beef and its juices to the pot.
-
Bring mixture to a simmer.
-
Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook 20–30 minutes, or until beef is tender and gravy has thickened.
-
If gravy becomes too thick, add a splash of broth. If too thin, simmer uncovered a few extra minutes.
-
Optional: Stir in sour cream or heavy cream for a richer, creamier sauce.
5. Combine & Serve
-
Add cooked egg noodles directly into the pot and toss until coated,
OR ladle the beef and gravy over a plate of warm noodles. -
Taste and adjust seasoning.
-
Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
