Amish Sugar Cookies

Amish Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Optional: Additional powdered sugar for dusting

Directions:
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.
Cream Butter and Sugars:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
Add Eggs and Vanilla:
Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition.
Combine Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Shape Cookies:
Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
Flatten and Bake:
Use the bottom of a glass to gently flatten each dough ball. If desired, you can dip the glass in powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Cool:
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with additional powdered sugar if desired.
