A Delivery Driver Left a Message on Our Ring Camera That Made Me Dismiss Our Babysitter — Four Words Could Have Saved My Baby
Our babysitter had been with us since last fall.
Her name was Megan, and she seemed ideal from the outset. Always arriving ahead of time, regularly sending pictures of my son either eating or playing on the floor, and somehow leaving the house even cleaner than before her shift began.
The best part was my baby’s obvious affection for her.
Every time Megan entered, my baby’s face glowed.
I constantly said we were extraordinarily fortunate.
Yet, there was something peculiar I noticed from our Ring camera.
Almost every week, the same delivery driver appeared at our home. He typically left parcels at the doorstep and walked away.
Sometimes, though, he would linger.
He’d gaze into the camera, moving his lips as if speaking, and then would leave.
Our Ring camera’s microphone had been nonfunctional for several months, so there was never any audio.
I imagined he was probably speaking into his earphones or just making some routine statement.
It never seemed important.
Until last Thursday.
That particular afternoon, with Megan inside with my son, he delivered two packages.
He set them down and began to leave.
But then, he stopped halfway along the porch.
He looked toward the side of our property and stood still for a few seconds.
Then he turned around.
His expression changed as he approached the camera again.
He didn’t look scared.
He seemed deeply unsettled.
Perhaps he’d witnessed something unexpected and was considering whether he should intervene.
He next took a step that filled me with anxiety.
Picking up a box, he tore off a section of the cardboard, searched his pockets, and pulled out a marker.
His hands were shaking visibly.
He quickly wrote FOUR WORDS on the cardboard, held it up to the Ring camera, and made sure it was visible long enough to catch my eye.
**CHECK YOUR TRASH CAN.**
I could only stare at my phone.
For a brief moment, I was frozen.
Then my phone slipped from my grasp as I started moving.
I hurried through the house, went out the back door, and ran toward the trash cans next to the garage.
One lid wasn’t tightly closed.
My heart pounded.
I took hold of the handle.
And lifted it. ⬇️
