Neiman Marcus Cake

Ingredients:
For the Cake:
1 cup chopped walnuts (or pecans)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup hot water
For the Frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk (more if needed for consistency)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
Prepare the Cake:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, granulated sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and well combined.
Gradually stir in the hot water until the batter is well mixed (it will be thin).
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
Bake:
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare the Frosting:
In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
Add the milk, a little at a time, until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency.
Mix in the vanilla extract.
Frost the Cake:
Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top and sides.
Garnish with additional chopped walnuts or pecans, if desired.
