No-Bake Bread Pudding

No-Bake Bread Pudding

Ingredients:
– 6 slices of day-old bread, cubed
– 4 cups whole milk
– 1 cup sugar
– 4 large eggs
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
– 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
– 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
– Caramel sauce (optional, for topping)

Instructions:
1. **Prepare Bread:** Place the bread cubes in a large mixing bowl. If using raisins, sprinkle them over the bread cubes.
2. **Heat Milk:** In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
3. **Make Custard Mixture:** In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
4. **Combine Milk and Eggs:** Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking continuously to prevent the eggs from curdling.
5. **Soak Bread:** Pour the milk and egg mixture over the bread cubes. Gently press the bread down with a spoon to ensure it soaks up the liquid. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
6. **Prepare Cooking Dish:** Grease a heatproof dish or baking pan that fits inside a larger pot or steamer.
7. **Pour Mixture:** Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly.
8. **Steam:** Place the dish inside a larger pot with about 1-2 inches of water. Cover the pot with a lid and steam the pudding over low heat for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the pudding is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
9. **Cool and Serve:** Allow the bread pudding to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, drizzle with caramel sauce. Serve warm or chilled.
