Purple Velvet Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 tablespoon purple food coloring gel (or more for a deeper color)
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper for easy release.
Make the Cake Batter:
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar and oil until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Add the buttermilk, vanilla extract, vinegar, and purple food coloring. Stir until the mixture is smooth and evenly colored.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Bake the Cake:
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Cream Cheese Frosting:
In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.
Assemble the Cake:
Once the cakes are completely cooled, level the tops if necessary.
Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a thick layer of cream cheese frosting over the top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
Decorate (Optional):
You can decorate the cake with sprinkles, edible glitter, or any decorations of your choice.
