Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, diced
1 small green bell pepper, diced
1/2 cup mushrooms, diced (optional)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
6 slices provolone cheese
4-6 hamburger buns (toasted, if desired)
Instructions:
Cook the Beef:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Sauté the Vegetables:
Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and mushrooms (if using) to the skillet with the beef. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until the vegetables have softened.
Add Seasonings:
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix everything well.
Add the Broth:
Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. If you want a thicker sauce, dissolve the cornstarch in a little bit of cold water and add it to the pan. Let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.
Add the Cheese:
Lay the slices of provolone cheese over the beef mixture. Let them melt, then gently stir until the cheese is fully incorporated and the mixture is creamy.
Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted hamburger buns and serve warm.
